Supporting homeless people's journey into work
St Mungo's Action Week focused on highlighting the dedicated support that homeless people need to make the journey back to work. Only 4% of St Mungo's residents are currently working. However, most homeless people do want to make the transition from pavement to pay packet. They want to lead full and meaningful lives, and pay their way, just like the rest of us. But because of the traumas caused by homelessness, they need dedicated help and support to make this possible.
At St Mungo's we believe that homeless people shouldn't be written off. Our projects already deliver support, from basic literacy and IT training through to full work experience opportunities, to thousands of homeless people who want to rebuild their lives. But we simply can't afford to offer these services to all of our residents. Our work and learning services are largely funded by donations from our supporters. Action Week events
The Action Week Walk once again was a great success. Our thanks and congratulations go out to the 153 clients, supporter, volunteers and supporters who walked on the day (as well as a number of their four legged friends) and raised over £10,000 in sponsorship! Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the stream of blue t-shirts really got us noticed.
Day two saw the launch of our Action Week report, Work Matters, at the Houses of Parliament.
Action Week Garden Party - our Royal Patron HRH The Duke of Kent met clients, staff and supporters at a Garden Party on Tuesday evening, in perfect June weather!
Action Week across our projects - thanks to all clients, staff and supporters who got involved. Events included an Action Week World cup football competition, won by the Hackney projects team; an event for supporters at the Compass Centre in Bristol; and song-writing and skills events at Endell Street hostel.
