Breaking news: Emergency shelter opens as freezing snow predicted in London - support our Emergency Shelter Appeal
Alan's story
Alan arrived at St Mungo's, having finally realised that his lifestyle of rough sleeping and drug taking would eventually kill him. Going to the funerals of five friends spurred him into action. His own life had fallen apart following divorce and estrangement from his family.
With nowhere to go he lived in squats for some time, then ended up sleeping on the streets.
Alan says that January is the hardest month.
"At Christmas people help you and you can get food, but places shut down in January, and it can get really cold".
St Mungo's provides accommodation for over 1,500 homeless people every night in projects right across London. We help thousands of people make positive life changes every year.
