Does St Mungo's accept food donations?

Yes. We do however have strict guidelines about what we can and cannot accept.

Chilled food must come direct from a fridge and go straight into another. All food must be wrapped and include a sell/use by date on it. We never accept food that is past its use by date.

Food that we cannot accept:

  • Shellfish
  • Sushi
  • Split or damaged food packets
  • Damaged tinned food

We are sometimes able to take donated food that is time specific - ie a surplus of sandwiches left over from a conference that will expire the following day. For this type of donation, please contact the nearest St Mungo's hostel to you, to offer your donation.

If you are contacting us from a food chain, and wish to arrange weekly/monthly food drops of left over food, please bear in mind that we are not always able to except large quantities of food. Most of our accommodation projects are small in size and don't have the means to store vast quantities of food. We will contact our nearest hostels or emergency shelters, closest to your business, to find out if they are able to accept one off or regular donations. We will then put you in contact with the project to arrange delivery a convenient time to deliver the food.
