St Mungo's is committed to helping homeless men and women lead more fulfilling and independent lives. We need your help to fund our work. We have many priorities and goals for next year and here are a few that you may be able to help us with:
Pathways to Employment supports residents to reach their employment goals. They participate in a wide variety of work and training activities including literacy and IT training, work experience and job
searches. The programme relies entirely on voluntary donations therefore we value any support so that we may continue to offer our clients a route out of homelessness and into work.
It will cost £395,359 to run the Pathways to Employment programme in 5 hostels in 2010/11
Almost 70% of our clients suffer from a diagnosed or suspected mental health issue. Addressing their mental health needs is a critical step on the road to recovery. Therapy can have a huge impact on all aspects of our clients' lives, helping them to better address their problems and develop their aspirations. Funding is urgently needed to employ psychotherapists to work with our residents so they can begin to change their lives for good.
In 2010/11 £41,012 is needed to employ one psychotherapist to work with clients for a year.
40% of homeless people have served a jail sentence; going to prison can cause the loss of a home, possessions, job and relationships. St Mungo's supports offenders whilst they are serving their sentence and once they are released. We help them find a place to stay and reintegrate into their community, as well as supporting them into training and employment. We need funding to provide this service to both young offenders and women offenders.
St Mungo's needs £36,454 to pay for one floating support worker to support both women and young offenders in 2010/11.
St Mungo's houses approximately 200 homeless women across London. Women often come to us with very complex and different needs to homeless men. Activities play an important role in helping them to learn how to live a normal life and recover from the issues that led to them becoming homeless. We are currently looking for funding for an activities and life skills worker to help our female residents to deal with their problems and recover from traumatic experiences.
To pay for one activities worker in 2010/11 around £40,000 will be need to be raised.
