Campaigns

St Mungo's works to ensure that the voices of homeless and excluded people are heard by Government, policy makers, commissioners, donors, the media and the general public.

We believe that lasting change will only occur if the views of homeless and excluded people are heard at every level of decision-making.

Past campaign successes

  • This year we have raised the profile of back to work support for homeless people with over 40 MPs signing our EDM and ongoing conversations with Government departments about implementing the recommendations of our report Work Matters.
  • Having long highlighted the fact that homelessness cuts across many Government departments we are delighted to see the Coalition Government has formed a cross Ministerial Working Group on preventing and tackling homelessness.
  • Following sustained campaigns to raise the profile of homeless people's physical health, we were pleased to see the 2010 publication on Inclusion Health, which not only holds the work of St Mungo's up as an example of good practice, but also sets out a vision for how healthcare can be improved for homeless people.
  • Following our 2009 focus on mental health the Government specifically addressed homelessness in their mental health strategy New Horizon.
