Physical health

Health has long been linked to the quality of a person's housing. Rough sleepers experience some of the most acute health problems of people who are homeless, however all people who are living in insecure, inappropriate or over crowded accommodation are much more likely to have health problems

However, while health problems are more common good access to health care is not. A report of the Department of Health's chief analyst found that homeless people are much more likely to use emergency health services rather than seek support at an earlier stage of illness.

St Mungo's has long been campaigning for better and more targeted access to health care for our clients and all homeless people. We have supported pilot programmes in our projects which have shown the benefits which can be delivered when support is designed for homeless people rather than expecting homeless people to fit into existing supportFind out more about what St Mungo's is doing to support our clients here
