Complex needs housing

St Mungo's has been housing the homeless since 1969 and finding ways to help them on their journey from homelessness to recovery. Over the years we have discovered that many former rough sleepers require a higher level of support as a result of having complex needs.

We have over 30 projects, with highly skilled staff, that offer the care and support needed for clients who fall into the category of having complex needs, such as acute physical and mental health problems, alcohol and substance misuse and those needing a higher degree of support.

Our complex needs projects include care homes, a mother and baby unit, semi-independant housing, women only projects (including projects for former sex workers) and a dual diagnosis project that supports clients who have a combination of drug and alcohol addiction. These projects are successful in providing the much needed support to former rough sleepers and ties in with St Mungo's recovery approach to homelessness; this takes into account the client's aspirations and needs (both physical and psychological) and taking an holistic approach to service provision.

In 2006 St Mungo's took over the running of a failing complex needs project that was not reaching its targets - read about the successful turnaround of Brent Dual Diagnosis Project
